OVERVIEW

Performance Engineering. Engine swaps, forced induction, ECU tuning, fabrication.

Performance engineering is design work, not parts installation. Bolting a turbo to an engine that can’t feed it fuel, can’t shed the heat, and can’t put the power down through the drivetrain is how cars end up broken in a parking lot. PACMods scopes the whole system first — airflow, fuelling, cooling, tune, and driveline — then builds and dyno-verifies it as one package. This is where Dusty’s @dusty.build engine-swap work lives: Honda chassis with Porsche power, daily-driven exotics making real, reliable horsepower, and one-off fabrication for the cars whose answer isn’t in a catalog.

THE PROGRAM
01

Engine swaps — the build, not the bolt-on.

An engine swap is a packaging, fabrication, and integration problem before it’s a power problem. We fabricate engine mounts and subframe adaptations, route fuel and cooling for the new powerplant, integrate wiring and engine management, and resolve the driveline so the car drives like the factory built it that way. Recent work includes the Honda-chassis Porsche-engine builds documented on @dusty.build — swaps that pass scrutiny under the hood, not just on a spec sheet.

02

Turbo and supercharger systems — fuelled, cooled, and tuned.

Forced induction is a system: turbo or supercharger, intercooling or a heat exchanger, fuel system capable of feeding the new airflow, and a tune that ties it together safely. We size the compressor to the power target, fabricate the charge piping and exhaust manifolding in-house, upgrade injectors and pumps to match, and never hand a car back without time on the dyno. The goal is repeatable, reliable power — not a peak number that grenades the engine on the third pull.

03

ECU tuning, fuel, and cooling — the supporting system.

A tune is only as honest as the hardware under it. We run ECU calibration on the dyno with wideband AFR and knock monitoring, build out fuel systems — injectors, pumps, lines, and surge tanks where the application needs them — and address cooling before it becomes the limit: radiators, oil coolers, intercoolers, and airflow management. For PNW cars that see I-90 grades and the occasional track day, the cooling and fuelling are what keep the power available when it matters.

04

Exhaust fabrication and drivetrain — finishing the package.

In-house exhaust fabrication — mandrel-bent stainless or titanium, TIG-welded, sized to the build rather than pulled from a shelf. Downstream of the engine we handle the drivetrain that has to survive the new output: clutches and flywheels, limited-slip differentials, axles, and driveshafts. Every performance build leaves with the whole chain engineered to the same target, so the weakest link isn’t a surprise six months later.

FAQ

Common questions. Performance Engineering.

Q/01Do you do engine swaps, or just bolt-on modifications?
Both, but the swaps are where the engineering shows. We fabricate mounts and adaptations, integrate fuel, cooling, wiring, and engine management, and resolve the driveline so the swapped car drives like it left the factory that way. Dusty’s @dusty.build feed documents the process publicly.
Q/02Will my forced-induction build be tuned and dyno-tested?
Always. We don’t hand back a turbo or supercharger build without ECU calibration on the dyno under wideband AFR and knock monitoring. The tune is sized to the hardware — fuel system, cooling, and airflow all verified together — so the power is reliable, not just a peak number on one good pull.
Q/03How much does a performance build cost and how long does it take?
It’s scoped per car after a consult, because a stage-one tune and a full engine swap are different projects. Bolt-on forced-induction packages typically run 4–8 weeks; engine swaps and fully bespoke builds run 8–16 weeks. You get a written scope and timeline before any work starts — we never quote a number sight-unseen.
Q/04How long does paint protection film last?
Professionally installed Ultrafit paint protection film carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty against yellowing, cracking, and delamination. In Pacific Northwest conditions, the film typically performs well past the warranty window if washed correctly and not exposed to chemical contamination.
Q/05How much does PPF cost in Seattle?
Full-body PPF on a luxury or exotic vehicle at PACMods starts at the upper end of the Seattle market because we work exclusively with concours-grade Ultrafit film and back every install with a 10-year warranty. Partial coverage (front-end, track package, or high-impact areas) starts lower. Request a private estimate for a vehicle-specific quote.
Q/06What paint protection film do you install?
PACMods installs Ultrafit — a top-tier self-healing paint protection film with a 10-year warranty. It is optically clear, hydrophobic, and swirl-resistant; we select the coverage tier and finish (gloss or matte) per vehicle and intended use, from daily-driven streets to dedicated track time.
Q/07How do I pay, and do you take a deposit?
We accept credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments. Payment is due on completion, before the vehicle leaves, unless the written quote says otherwise. A deposit may be required where the build needs parts we order in and those parts come to more than $500 — it covers the order, and it is set out on the written quote before any work starts. We do not bill insurance carriers, so the number on your written quote is the number you pay.
Q/08Do you work with insurance companies?
PACMods is an independent shop by intention and does not work with insurance carriers. We perform cosmetic and collision repair on a direct-pay basis for owners who want concours-quality work without the carrier-driven shortcuts that compromise luxury vehicles. We can help you understand what an insurance reimbursement might cover, but the work itself is between you and us.
